There is nothing like being on the open water as the sun is setting and feeling cool breezes on your face. That’s when the sky’s colors begin to paint a magnificent masterpiece that is as brilliant on Mobile Bay as any place in the world. Middle Bay Sailing Charters helps you do just that in style.
Jeff Brown owns Middle Bay Sailing Charters in Fairhope and is ready when you are on board his beautiful 37’ Pearson Ketchrig, Tangerine. Jeff has lived here since 1997 and began to get his sea time while stationed in the navy at Virginia Beach, VA. He stayed there for another two years to be close to the water and sail before spending four years in Miami. A helicopter mechanic by occupation, in 2000 he became licensed and certified to charter through Nautica Sailing.
Jeff sold the first boat that he lived on for seven years, a 33’ Morgan, before purchasing Tangerine. He kept the name because the owner had named it after the 40s song that he and his wife had first danced to. A charter aboard Tangerine can take up to six people. Jeff has found that people like to bring whatever they want to eat and drink, and as much as they like. He will provide bottled water and ice, and has things like extra towels, corkscrews, and other accoutrements that may be needed.
There are lots of occasions that make a sunset sail special. A romantic evening with friends, a family outing, a ladies' night out, just an opportunity to be on the Bay as the sun sets. Jeff recently took newlyweds out for champagne and photos, and also had a graduating high schooler have her senior pictures taken aboard Tangerine. He will even pick up special occasion items like cakes and champagne so you can keep the surprise a secret. Many travelers to the area have said a sunset charter aboard Tangerine was “the best part of my trip!”
Chartering Tangerine costs $350 for up to six people. She is docked at the Fly Creek City Marina. This time of year, with the sun setting around 8:00 PM, you will need to be at the dock around 5:30. Most cruises are two and a half to three hours long. Jeff will head back to shore about 10 minutes after the sun sets but at a leisurely pace so you can enjoy your time on the water and the brilliance of the afterglow.
