In the Scenic 98 Coastal communities, from Mobile to Pensacola, there are so many nice golf courses to choose from. Golfers from all over the country travel to the area to play and enjoy all we have to offer in terms of food, scenery, entertainment, and great golf! Today we wanted to suggest what a three-day golfer’s weekend might look like. We decided that for convenience-sake, we would look for nice places to stay that offer more than just golf, although that is the main focus.

Our three-day golf weekend includes 54 holes at three courses within short distances from each other. Can you guess? Here’s a hint: all are situated along the 21-mile stretch of highway along Ft. Morgan Road (Hwy-180, Gulf Shores). There are plenty of vacation rental properties to accommodate large or small groups. Night-time entertainment abounds in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach if you choose to venture out a night or two. Or you can choose to stay in and cook your favorite seafood purchased at Fresh Market Seafood right on Ft. Morgan Road.

For accommodations, consider The Beach Club, the only full-service resort along Alabama’s Gulf Coast located on 86 acres of white-sand beaches. Everything you want and need is available on the resort property. Accommodations include Gulf-front condominiums and lakeside cottages, many with private pools. Check out The Spectrum Experience for all the activities and services available including on-site restaurants, spa, and, well, pretty much everything!

Now on to the golf. Our choices would be three well-maintained, challenging courses to play including Gulf Shores Golf Club, The Peninsula, Golf and Racquet Club, and Kiva Dunes, which is just next door to The Beach Club Resort.

The Gulf Shores Golf Club is near the beginning of Ft. Morgan Road. It is a challenging 6000-yard course from the white tees with fast greens. It’s a fun layout and has plenty of water and sand. To get you ready, your course fee includes free range balls, driving, putting, chipping, and sand ranges. This is an 18-hole par 71 championship course built in the 1960s with lots of wildlife, oak trees, and pines. Gulf Shores Golf Club is not fancy but is a good test of golf that you will enjoy.

Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club provide the perfect blend of southern hospitality and championship golf in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Located on the Mobile Bay side of Ft. Morgan Road about midway down, Peninsula is a 27-hole Earle Stone design that has received widespread acclaim from the likes of Golf Advisor; named among “The Best Conditioned Courses” and “Top Courses to Play in Alabama.” Zagat’s Survey; one of “America’s Top Golf Courses” and one of the ”Best Places to Play” by Golf Digest. Enough said!

Kiva Dunes Resort and Golf is always at the top of the list when playing along the Scenic 98 Coastal area. This gorgeous track winds through a secluded piece of land, presenting incredible shot-making opportunities in an unforgettable setting. The links-style course, designed by former U.S. Open Champion Gary Pate, was ranked the number one public course in Alabama by Golf Advisor in 2017. It’s a challenging, beautiful course situated within an upscale resort with all the amenities and pure white sand beaches you could want. You might even see a Blue Angel fly by while playing. I did! Pretty cool…
